The local history of needle manufacturing the “needle and thread” motif inspired the use of linear and circular light lines which made up the general lighting layer. The Sun and Night motif was chosen in order to provide a night time shopping experience and increase visitor numbers at all hours. I used RGBW LED strips in coffers to tune the colour throughout the day: sunrise, midday, sunset and a scene reminiscent of a night time, street side shopping experience.

Existing, listed mosaic artwork by Paolozzi already consisted of a series of circular and linear designs, which was accentuated by the UV and IR free lighting. The local art curator visited and commented on the beautiful new lighting.

Completed with Elektra Lighting.
